Salah Al-Abd: 25% decline in the sale of Kahk (Eid Cookies)

Mr. Salah Al-Abd, Cairo Chamber’s board member and the head of the Chamber's confectionary division, expected that this year Kahk sales will decline by 25% compared to last year, because the prices of Eid cookies increased compared to last year as a result of high production costs and weak consumer purchasing power.

 

 

The price of sugar has increased by 150% compared to last year, as well as the price of flour has reached to 5300 pounds per ton, while the nuts increased by about 50%, and the price of the margarine increased by 25%.

 

 

Concerning the market dynamics of Ramadan Eastern dessert during the Holy month, he said that this year witnesses decrease in sales of about 15%, despite the stability of the prices of eastern dessert, justifying that  there are many burdens on Egyptian families because the holy month of   coincides  with back to school
