Mr. Ayman El-Ashry, Chairman of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, affirmed that the Syrian–Egyptian Economic Forum held in Damascus represents a strong boost to economic cooperation between the two countries, amid broad participation from chamber leaders and prominent business figures, reflecting a genuine will to deepen bilateral relations.
He explained that his participation supports Egypt’s efforts to enhance Arab economic cooperation, activating the role of chambers and the private sector as key partners in achieving development and building partnerships based on shared interests and productive integration.
Mr. El-Ashry emphasized that the forum focuses on turning discussions into practical projects on the ground and addressing trade and investment challenges, helping to create a more attractive business environment.
He highlighted Syria’s interest in benefiting from Egyptian expertise, especially in industry and factory rehabilitation, and revealed his intention to inject investments in the Syrian iron sector. The forum provides opportunities for collaboration through joint manufacturing, restarting factories, and providing production inputs, supporting reconstruction efforts and adding value to both economies.
He stressed that the next phase requires practical partnerships in vital sectors such as industry, energy, agriculture, transport, and construction materials. Two memoranda of understanding were signed between the Syrian Chambers Federation and both the Egyptian Chambers Federation and the African Union of Chambers, with the aim of strengthening private-sector cooperation, establishing a joint chamber, organizing delegations and forums, and supporting Egyptian companies’ participation in reconstruction projects.
In conclusion, Mr. El-Ashry affirmed that the participation of Egypt’s private sector reflects a genuine commitment to enhancing Syrian–Egyptian economic cooperation, reviving the economic partnership, opening new horizons for joint investment, and supporting job creation and sustainable development for the benefit of both peoples and regional economic stability.
