25% shortfall in sales of Ramadan nuts

Major General Mr. Salah EL Abd - Board member ,head of Confectionary Division – Revealed that there

 

is a shortfall in sales of Ramadan nuts ( yameesh ) by 25% over the previous year due to increased

 

prices of raw materials and the instability of dollar and also the political events that took the attention of

 

the Egyptian street significantly in the recent period

 

 

 MR. El Abd also added that Ramadan sales is classified into 3 sections : first section is yameesh 

 

second is the oriental sweets like konafa, basbosa, … but both has a poor average purchase this year

 

while the third is feast pies and cakes which we will hope to obtain a highly earnings to compensate the

 

.deficit that has occurred in sales of the first two sections

 

 

As for the yameeesh prices this year ; Qamar din 20 pounds , raisins 26 pounds, coconut 26 pounds,

 

Alqrasia 54 pounds, apricot 68 pounds, figs 68 pounds and peanut 68 pounds, almonds 104 pounds,

 

walnuts 120 pounds, dates 18 pounds and indian dates 8 pounds, although raisins, coconut and dates

 

was highly demanded because of its lower price.

 

 

Mr. El Abd pointed out that among the problems that we face is how to provide raw materials, particularly

 

as there are some countries from which we import from having some political problems like Syria , Iran,

 

Turkey, and this will lead to problems for merchants.

 

Finally, he stressed that trade requires calm and stability to achieve recovery and he also expected that

 

sales will not increase during Ramadan because of the political situation which is currently taking place

 

in Egypt and effect on everyone.
