Mustafa al-Najjar, chairman of the Rice and Cereals committee on the Federation of Chambers of Commerce, confirmed that a decision to import rice has taken because the Ministry of Supply had to cover the deficit during the coming period.

He also stressed that the imported rice will be available within the markets during the next two weeks, with prices lower than the local rice prices.

He added that Egypt’s needs are 400 thousand tons of imported rice for the first year because the imported quantities are determined according to local production.

He noted that the role of the Federation of Chambers is to present ideas to the government, and the countries we will import from them are India, China, Vietnam, southern Europe, Turkey, Italy, and Greece.
