"Building materials" calling on "the government" to modify Protection of Competition Law

Ahmad al- Zeini" The Chairman of the Division of building  materials in Cairo Chamber - demanded

 

that the Government  should commit to amend the law on ensuring  free  competition and prohibiting

 

 anticompetitive  practices to face monopoly in the cement market . he also demanded to increase the

 

punishment of monopoly for up to 15% of the sales of monopolistic company, beside canceling  of  turn

 

king ' s evidence", In order to encourage monopolists in reporting on other monopolists with exemption

 

from punishment. "

 

 

 

Al-Zeini explained that true cost per cement ton does not exceed 270 pounds including raw material,

 

energy and labor, But the companies sell at inflating pricing To keep prices inside the local market are

 

highest compared to other countries such as Turkey Which sells at 460 pounds per ton. He pointed out

 

that studies have confirmed that the rate of consumption of the domestic cement market will jump to 77

 

million tons over the next three years.

 

 

He added that the productive capacity volume of existing factories is 55 million tons per year from 

 

approximately 19 factories While the average consumption rate of production which requires a new

 

license to meet the growing demand for cement, which is growing at the rate of 7% annually.
