20% of Egyptians uses smuggled secondhand clothes from Europe

In a press interview with one of the Egyptian national newspapers, Mr. Ali shokry- vice

 

Chairman of Cairo Chamber- Explained that the volume of smuggled secondhand clothes reached

 

20% of the Egyptian market, Resulting in a significant drop in the sales of new garment shops and

 

producing factories. He called for quickly supporting those factories against deterioration, by taking

 

strict measures and legislation, keeping control over the Outlet ports. He warned that the crisis

 

increases day after day, and represents a threat to national production.

 

 

 

He noted that trading of secondhand clothes from abroad is widely spread in the Egyptian markets

 

recently that may cause a threat to the health of a large number of Egyptians, and impede the movement

 

of life in many streets in Cairo and other provinces because of street sellers, who sell those clothes.

 

 

 

The volume of such trade is 20% of the total clothes market in Egypt, noting that These clothes are not

 

subject to health control and is considered a rubbish invaded Egypt recently from Europe markets.

 

Europeans get rid of those clothes as waste, and do not asking for a price in return, and also

 

those clothes trade is a free source of livelihood for some of the famous importers, who collect them

 

then sell to street vendors by kilos. The pofit of these clothes reached 20%, but at the expense of poor

 

and Egyptians' health, as they were entered informally into Egypt without subjecting to medical

 

examination for validation and they did not have any quality standards plus containing  serious health

 

and environmental damage.
