The Federation of Egyptian Chambers of Commerce (FEDCOC )’s General  Division of Digital Economy and Technology has announced its participation in the International Web Summit, which will take place in Lisbon, Portugal, from November 1-4.

Under the auspices of the Information Technology Industry Development Agency (ITIDA), a total of 24 Egyptian start-ups will participate in the event.

This is the General Division of the Digital Economy's second appearance at the summit, following its participation in the 2019 edition, which included seven Egyptian enterprises. This is in line with the Egyptian government's desire to promote technical innovation and help start-ups and entrepreneurs. Furthermore, the Ministry of Communications has a particular interest in assisting technology start-ups.

Khalil Hassan Khalil, Head of the General Division for Digital Economy and Technology, expressed his pleasure to participate for the second year in the new session of the Lisbon Exhibition and Conference, following the recent success, which encouraged a threefold increase in the number of participating companies, in accordance with the strategic vision of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.

Web Summit, according to Khalil, is one of Europe's largest global events in the fields of technology and entrepreneurship. It has been conducted annually since 2010, with over 90,000 attendees, including 11,000 CEOs of big technology companies from 160 countries and 1200 speakers. Over 4000 start-ups are also taking part. They work in the advanced technology industry. Furthermore, the process of selecting qualified companies to compete for a spot at the Web Summit exhibition and conference has gone through several stages to ensure that the best elements are chosen in a transparent way and that 24 companies from the Egyptian pavilion will be allowed to participate this year

After the jury has finished selecting the winning companies, the winners will be announced during the activities of the Techni Summit conference, which will be held at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina on 2-4 October 2021. The committee includes members from ITIDA, the Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship Center (TIEC), the General Division for the Digital Economy, and technology experts.
