The Cairo and Casablanca Chambers of Commerce and Industry have renewed their joint cooperation protocol, which was originally signed in 2016, in order to enhance the economic relations between Egypt and Morocco and support the economies of both countries. A delegation from the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services visited the Cairo Chamber and the protocol was signed by Ahmed El-Waseimy, Deputy Chairman of the Cairo Chamber, and Hassan Barkani, Chairman of the Moroccan Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services. The protocol aims to exchange data regarding the Egyptian and Moroccan markets, as well as investment and trade opportunities available in both countries. The two sides also discussed ways to increase their cooperation and coordination in various sectors. The Egyptian side highlighted the advantages of Egypt, such as its strategic location, investment opportunities, and trade agreements with various international entities. The goal of this renewed cooperation is to increase the economic ties between the two countries and take advantage of the many investment opportunities available in Egypt, especially in light of the unprecedented development and infrastructure advancements that have taken place during the presidency of Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

During this meeting, the Egyptian side highlighted the many advantages that Egypt enjoys, such as its strategic location, investment, and trade opportunities, as well as the agreements it has signed with various international economic entities. Ahmed El-Waseimy, in a speech on behalf of the Cairo Chamber, emphasised the importance of Egyptian-Moroccan cooperation in exploring non-traditional ways to work together on the ground and to achieve quick results that benefit both sides. He also pointed out that Egypt is experiencing a developmental surge in all sectors and has unprecedented infrastructure, which is a driving force for investment in the Egyptian market, especially in light of the political leadership support in both countries.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cairo Chamber also noted that the chamber has more than 600,000 members, including traders, manufacturers, investors, and service providers. He emphasised that through cooperation with the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, the two chambers can explore real ways to develop mutual trade and investment relations between Egypt and Morocco. He also pointed out that this meeting represents an important step in developing economic and trade relations between the two countries to increase the volume of joint investments. He further mentioned that Egypt has witnessed significant developments in its infrastructure lately to encourage foreign investment, including road networks, transportation, ports, communications, and energy, as well as the establishment of many industrial zones, especially around the Suez Canal axis. He also mentioned the new investment law that protects investors and eliminates bureaucracy to facilitate registration and operation procedures. Egypt is a promising and large market with a population of over 100 million, and therefore, the two countries are working to take advantage of the mutual trade agreements between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the Kingdom of Morocco, such as the Agadir Agreement for Trade Exchange, which was signed in 2004 and entered into force in 2007.

Mr. Hassan Berrakani, President of the Casablanca Chamber of Commerce, Industry, and Services, stated that the purpose of the Moroccan delegation's visit is to increase economic cooperation with the Egyptian side through the Cairo Chamber and to renew the cooperation protocol, which will have a positive impact on supporting bilateral trade and investment relations, especially in the economic sector, under the support of the leaders of both countries to increase relations in all fields. He also expected that after this meeting, there would be new cooperation between the two chambers and positive movements following the warm reception from representatives of the Cairo Chamber and their desire to increase joint investment and trade cooperation.

Meanwhile, Mr. Wael Aref, the Trade Advisor in the Commercial Representation Sector of the Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry, reviewed the volume of trade exchange between the two countries, indicating that in 2022, it amounted to $888 million, of which $842 million were Egyptian exports to Morocco and $46 million were Moroccan imports to the Egyptian market.
