The Cairo Chamber of Commerce recently received a delegation from the Indian Council for the Promotion of Exports of Communications and Information Technology Equipment and Services (TEPC) to discuss cooperation and invite the Chamber to participate in the India-Africa Communications and Information Technology Exhibition 2024, set to take place in Egypt this year.
On behalf of Mr. Ayman Ashry, chairman of the Cairo Chamber of Commerce, the delegation was received by Mr. Sherif Yahya, vice chairman of the Chamber, in the presence of Mr. Mohamed Mahran, a member of the Chamber’s Board of Directors, and Dr. Karim Ghoneim, head of the Chamber’s Digital Economy and Technology Division.
From the Indian side, Mr. Shri Arun Gupta, Director General of the Indian Council, Ms. Sarbani Dasgupta, Deputy Director, and Mr. Rav Praveen Singh, Commercial Counselor of the Embassy of India in Cairo, were present.
During the meeting, the two sides discussed ways to strengthen economic cooperation between Egypt and India and to increase opportunities for joint trade and investment. The Indian delegation invited the Cairo Chamber of Commerce to participate in the India-Africa ICT Expo, scheduled to be held in Egypt in August 2024.
The potential cooperation between Indian and Egyptian ICT companies was also discussed, and ideas were exchanged on the needs and expectations of both parties and ways to strengthen relations between the Indian and Egyptian ICT sectors, ultimately leading to successful participation in the African Indian ICT Fair 2024.
It is worth noting that TEPC has been organizing the India-Africa ICT Exhibition since 2015, an international event to build partnerships between India and African States in the ICT sector, organized in several African countries, including Ethiopia last year.
Mr. Sherif Yahya stressed that Egypt's economic growth presents a significant opportunity for India to benefit from this growth, enhancing joint trade and investment exchange, especially in light of the development boom that Egypt has been experiencing at all levels in recent years, supporting investment and investors in various sectors. The Chamber also indicated its full readiness to support any step that would benefit the economies of the two countries, noting the importance of the ICT sector.
The Indian delegation referred to the presence of Moroccan companies alongside Indian companies at the exhibition. The exhibition will include panel discussions, conferences, opening sessions, and bilateral meetings between the Egyptian and Indian sides. There are also Indian companies specializing in providing free grants for ICT training, which is a great opportunity to exchange experiences between the two sides.
The visit of the Indian delegation to the Cairo Chamber of Commerce is an important step towards enhancing economic cooperation between Egypt and India. It is expected that this visit will result in an increase in joint trade and investment exchange and contribute to strengthening bilateral economic relations in general.
