Cairo Chamber of Commerce discusses with the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo for new ways to boost
economic ties, to increase the exports and imports between Egypt and Indonesia in the coming period.
This is c came after the visit of the "Ewan Molatino"- Indonesian Embassy Commercial Counselor to the
Chamber this week.
Engineer Ibrahim Al Araby- Cairo Chamber's Chairman- confirmed that the Indonesian side will be
provided with the required information about the goods available in the Egyptian market to open a new
field for export to Indonesia. He said that providing information process is Simple and uncomplicated
unlike studies in goods of both markets Egyptian and Indonesian that take a long time in preparation for
exporters and suppliers. This process will be an important and urgent step to boost exports and imports
and supporting Trade exchange between the two countries in the next few days.
Al Araby added that the circumstances are similar between Egypt and Indonesia, which supports and
increase cooperation, especially that Business dealings between the two countries are few and not rise to the level required.
He explained that the Chamber will organize a meeting in the coming days combines all
the commercial divisions and the economic side of Indonesian embassy to identify the goods and
activities in both markets, pointing out that the target is to increase Egyptian exports to Indonesia and
imports from Egypt.
He pointed out that the Cairo Chamber signed group of protocols with various business chambers
worldwide, which Interested in supporting economic relations, hence signing of protocols with
Indonesian chambers, which Want effective cooperation in the economic field with the Egyptian side, is
studied.
For his part, Indonesian Commercial Counselor said that dealing with Egypt in various business areas
does not exceed 2% and the purpose of this visit is raising this ratio and always work to increase it.
He added that Indonesia has a variety of business areas, including agricultural activities, the land
provision, Shoes, and leather products. The trend towards Egypt in this period is to discuss new
opportunities for trade cooperation and export of Indonesian technology to the Egyptian market.
He pointed to the need for a meeting, which brings together business owners in Egypt and the economic
side of Indonesian Embassy, To explain the opportunities available in both markets which have been
agreed upon with the Chamber’s Chairman. He stressed that Egypt after the revolution is in Economic
correction phase and therefore there is a desire from Indonesia to cooperate with Egypt, especially that
Indonesia experienced the same circumstances in Egypt. He also welcomed the signing of a protocol
between the Cairo Chamber and the Chambers of Commerce in Indonesia to support trade relations
and increase the volume of trade exchange between the two countries.
It is worth mentioning that the volume of trade exchange between Egypt and Indonesia in 2011 reached
864 million dollars,
In 2012 until October $ 741 million while exports amounted in the same period to 83 million, and imports
658 million dollars. From Egypt's main exports to Indonesia are phosphates, phosphate fertilizers,
molasses, half dried dates, half tanned skins, Non-combed ginned cotton, rubber products, tires,
Ready-made garments, and rubber scrap.
While the most imports from Indonesia are refined palm oil, all types of paper, wood products, rubber
products, tires, ready-made garments, laundry soap and surgical sutures.
