Report on the Ambassador of Cuba visit to Cairo Chamber of Commerce

Pursuant to the vital role of Cairo Chamber of Commerce in strengthening ways of cooperation and increasing economic relations between the Arab Republic of Egypt and the outside world, and consolidating the economic and trade relations to encourage investments  and increase trade exchange between Egypt and foreign countries.

 

 Eng. Ibrahim Mahmoud AlAraby- Cairo Chamber Chairman and Mr. Mohamed Gharib second vice president of the chamber received Mr. Laureano Rodrandz Castro - Ambassador of the Republic of Cuba on a private visit to the Cairo Chamber of Commerce on 5/2/2015.

 

Eng. Ibrahim AlAraby started welcoming the ambassador and expressed his happiness that this visit will contribute in increasing the volume of trade and investments between the two countries.

Ambassador of Cuba said that he was appointed recently in Egypt and he attended in order to build relations between the two chambers of Cairo and Cuba.  He resumed that Cuba is small state and has a few staff, therefore, only him and his Advisor are in Egypt in order to develop the relations on all levels political, cultural, and economic.  One of the most important priorities is to deal and benefit from the experience of the Chamber to encourage trade exchange between the two countries. Although the two countries far away geographically, but we have common interests, and it welcomes to collect information about Cairo Chamber of Commerce and he will provide the Chamber with necessary information about the Republic of Cuba.

 

Ibrahim AlAraby commented that this is the first meeting between Cairo Chamber of Commerce and the Embassy of Cuba and we followed up the long struggle that Cuba experienced. He added that trade exchange between the two countries is too small, that does not exceed 2 or 3 million dollars.

The Ambassador explained that Cuba during the past period was suffering from isolation and the blockade because of the Cold War, and now the relations of the Cuban American begin improving and restoring the diplomatic relations, and resolving the political, and economic obstacles. He explained that the state of Cuba seek to reduce its dominance and giving more opportunities for small business companies to deal easily with foreign authorities. The exchange of delegations increases expertise and investments between the two countries.

 

The Ambassador pointed out that there is simple production of sugar and good production of medicine and vaccinations, and high-tech genetically modified products and they have Plants with cells genetically modified with no diseases and is very useful.

 

Eng. Ibrahim AlAraby asked if these plants are in product form or seeds. The Ambassador answered that these are seeds for planting, but is not exported yet, but it looks to be exported in the future and they are building a project similar to the project of the Suez Canal in their country and that this will help bringing Capitals from inside or abroad.

 

He also explained that they have products to eliminate insects, mice and do not have any effects on the environment, which is considered the latest technology in the world, and they used cells for diabetics to make them avoid amputation as a result of gangrene.

 

Eng. Ibrahim AlAraby said that we may need sufficient information so that we can follow-up to Economic and trade situation in Cuba, and Cuban ambassador replied that he will work on that and to promote investment, therefore he will send all their information in English language in order to post in Cairo Chamber's Website. He hoped that the upcoming visit will be more effective and on the ground to increase trade exchange between the two countries.

 

At the end of the meeting Eng. Ibrahim thanked the Ambassador for visiting Cairo Chamber, promising to exert more efforts for increasing trade between the two countries, and his Excellency the Ambassador thanked  Eng. Ibrahim AlAraby and Mr./Mohammad Gharib for the good hospitality.
