"Chambers of Commerce": will intervene to amend any resolution, that would have negative affect on consumers

Mr. Ahmed Al-Wakeel head of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, said that the Federation is in favor of the national industry protection which proved to be affected for a limited time until recovery provided that the consumers should not be affected negatively by any increases in prices and within the framework of respecting the international conventions and obligations. This statement comes under the new issued resolutions on imposing a final protective duty for iron and temporary fees for sugar, as well as banning the import of goods and products are of a technical nature and folk crafts which have traditional heritage.

 

He added that the federation is considered  the legal representative of all traders and craftsmen and always trying to balance between the economics of local industry and the interests of the importers and also consumer rights in keeping normal prices in the shadow of rights of the country in exceptional circumstances of limited duration in accordance with international conventions.

 

And he stressed that the Federation would intervene to amend any decision if the circumstances, on which the decision was issued, or if there is any harm to any of the concerned parties, or the consumer is affected negatively.

He noted that the new Constitution confirmed on disciplined market mechanisms, support competitiveness, preventing monopolistic practices, and achieving the balance among the interests of the different parties, and protecting consumers, as well as respecting the international conventions and commitments.
