Importers Emphasized Opening letters of credit to import yamesh Ramadan

Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) Governor, Mr. Hisham Ramez said that CBE didn't open credit

documentations to import nuts or yamesh during Ramadan, as traders are taking advantage of such

circumstances to raise prices, which will drop if the citizens refrain from purchasing,

 

Mr. Ramez pointed out that any country undergoing the conditions which Egypt suffered would take

more drastic measures,

but the central bank just taking decisions to regulate the market. however, the market has not seen a

shortage of any commodities.

 

For his part, Mr.Salah El Abd, Cairo chamber board member, head of sweets division and one of

the leading importers of yamesh Ramadan said that we got the dollar and letters of credit opened for us

by banks.

 

 El Abd added that nuts are at high prices this year due to increasing prices in the country of origin

and also the actions taken by the CBE in the foreign exchange market and letters of credit.

 

Mr. Rajab Al-Attar, head of spices Division at Cairo chamber of commerce also denied decreasing prices

in yamesh Ramadan, pointing to the rise in prices from 20 to 40%, stressing that the importers have already

import nuts before applying the central bank decisions.

 

By asking bankers, They have confirmed that their banks actually opened a letters of credit for importing

nuts but in very small quantities without any instruction from the central prohibiting it.
