The meeting between Cairo Chamber and GOEIC to discuss importers' problems

a delegation of Cairo Chamber , headed by Engineer / Tariq El Sallab- Vice Chairman  of Cairo Chamber and head of the General Division for paints at the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce met with Major General / Mohamed Alaa Abdul Karim head of the General Authority for export and import Control, to discuss the problems faced by importers and exporters during the current period , as the meeting was also attended by Dr. Hassan Abdul Majid, chairman of Egyptian organization for Standardization and quality, and Mr. Mohammed al-Masry- board member of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, and the President of Port Said Chamber.

 

Engineer / Tariq ElSallab has explained that he has been discussing with the Ministry of Industry and Trade Decree No. 563 for the year 2015 on producers who meet the rules of virtual inspection for imported messages and industrial non-food items, which were assigned to the laboratories of the export and imports control Authority for analysis, and contain chemical substances, with no negligence with materials, which can be used in the manufacture of harmful substances.

 

He stressed that the Chambers are in favor of this resolution to achieve the public interest but it is necessary to find appropriate mechanisms for its implementation; to ensure the inspection speed and the release of messages to avoid affording importers fines and floor costs.

 

For his part, Major General / Alaa Mohammed Abdul Karim said, that once the decision has issued the laboratories of Authority has been opened beside the labs  of the Chemistry Administration and Labs of  specifications and quality Authority to fasten the inspection of the samples , as long as  the message  accompanied with «data sheet». He pointed out that the inspection period lasts from 4 to 6 in working days and as soon as the final result is issued the messages will be released, adding that this process will reduce the costs of taking samples to make it easier for importers.

 

Abdul Karim said that a joint meeting in the latter half of this month will be held, to discuss and analyze the results of this decision.

Commenting on this meeting, , Engineer Ibrahim AlAraby, vice chairman of the General Federation of Chambers of Commerce, and the Chairman of Cairo Chamber of Commerce said this meeting came within the framework of the coordination between the Chamber and the Authority to achieve  the public  interest of the country and to find appropriate solutions for the problems of importers and exporters. He noted that to the delegation of the Chamber provided a detailed note on these problems to the Chairman of the Authority, who has been invited for an expanded meeting at the Chamber for discussion on the ground in the presence of importers and exporters.
