Egypt-US trade exchange up by 13.4% in 9 months of 2022: CAPMAS

The volume of trade exchange between Egypt and the United States hit $7.3 billion during the first nine months of 2022, compared to $6.5 billion in the same period of 2021, a 13.4 percent increase, according to the Egyptian Central Agency for Public Mobilisation and Statistics (CAPMAS).
Egypt's exports to the US slightly decreased to $1.8 billion in the first nine months of 2022, down from $1.9 billion in the same period in 2021 – a 1.7 percent reduction.
Egypt's imports from the US rose by 19.5 percent to $5.5 billion in the first nine months of 2022, compared to $4.6 billion in the same period in 2021.
The top commodities exported by Egypt to the US during the first nine months of 2022 included clothes at $1.1 billion, plastics and their products at $136.5 million, and carpets and floor coverings at $117.4 million.
The top commodities imported by Egypt from the US included seeds and medicinal plants at $1.9 billion, fuel and mineral oils at $1 billion, and pharmaceutical products at $326.2 million.
Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi arrived in Washington on Tuesday night to participate in the US-Africa Leaders Summit, hosted by US President Joe Biden, which runs till Thursday and is being attended by nearly 49 heads of state and senior government officials from African countries.
On the sidelines of the summit, El-Sisi is set to meet with Republican and Democratic members of a “friends of Egypt” group in Congress, said presidential spokesman Bassam Rady on Wednesday.
The Egyptian president will have a one-on-one meeting with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken at the Washington Convention Centre, Rady added.
Later in the day, El-Sisi will attend a banquet organised by President Biden at the White House in honour of African leaders taking part in the US-Africa summit.
El-Sisi is also scheduled to attend the closing session of the US-Africa Business Forum, which will be attended by President Biden, Rady added.
