The Minister of Trade and Industry has issued a decision to continue imposing an export tariff on dust, powders, and zinc flakes at a rate of 5 thousand Egyptian pounds per ton for a period of one year.

Engineer Ahmed Sameer, the Minister of Trade and Industry, issued a decision to continue implementing the ministerial decision to impose an export tariff on dust, powders, and zinc flakes under customs code (79.03) at a rate of 5 thousand Egyptian pounds per ton for a year from the date of publication in the Egyptian Gazette.

The Minister stated that this decision aims to preserve raw materials and benefit from their manufacturing to increase the value added to local industries. Additionally, it aims to provide scrap metal in the local market as it is a primary material necessary for many industries. He also pointed out that zinc ore is of great industrial importance as it is an important element in supporting clean energy technologies such as solar and wind power due to its high ability to protect metals from corrosion.

Dr. Amani Al-Wesaal, Head of the Agreements, Trade, and Foreign Sector, explained that the ministry works according to international commercial rules and procedures to achieve a balance between providing basic materials in the local market for industry or exporting them abroad. She noted that an export tariff has been imposed on some types of scrap and metal waste, including zinc, since 2002. She also stated that the decision to impose the export tariff on dust, powders, and zinc flakes was made after studying the prices in the local market compared to global prices.
