Cairo – The secretary-general of the Arab Brazilian Chamber of Commerce (ABCC), Tamer Mansour, met with Ambassador Mahi Hassan Abdel Latif, Egypt's deputy foreign minister for American Affairs, to discuss strengthening cooperation between the ABCC and the Ministry. The goal is to boost investments and increase trade between Cairo, the capital of the Arab country, and São Paulo, Brazil's central economic hub. Also present was Michael Gamal, regional director and head of the ABCC's office in Cairo.
During the meeting, Latif expressed her joy for the recent opening of the ABCC's office in Cairo during the visit by the vice president of Brazil, Hamilton Mourão, to Egypt last September.
Mansour underscored the office is the only one of the institution in Africa and uses Cairo as a starting point for commercial exchange between Latin American and African countries. This could increase Brazilian investments in Egypt's priority sectors, such as agriculture, digitalization, and SMEs.
The deputy minister of Foreign Affairs expressed her willingness to cooperate with the ABCC to amplify trade relations, especially after the increase in Egyptian exports to Brazil by 150% in 2021 and the trade balance between the two countries reaching USD 2 billion.
She added Egypt has its eyes on Brazil, one of the most prominent economic, political, and human powers in Latin America. For the diplomat, a nonstop flight between Cairo and São Paulo will soon contribute to the development of relations in tourism, not only with Brazil but all Latin American countries.
Mansour expressed his contentment at the meeting, marked by the aim to maximize cooperation and economic integration between Egypt and Brazil through the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which will offer all means of support to facilitate the work of the ABCC's regional office in Cairo.
The secretary-general also highlighted ongoing cooperation between the ABCC and the Egyptian Ministry to reinforce economic and cultural ties between the two countries, emphasizing the Arab country is the main gateway to North Africa, and Brazil is the main gateway to Latin America.
