Egypt’s president Abdel Fattah al Sisi said in a joint press conference with Djiboutian counterpart Ismail Omar Guelleh that the bilateral cooperation between Egypt and Djibouti witnessed ‘important qualitative’ steps in all fields during the past period.

He added that he agreed with President Omar Guelleh on increasing mutual investments between both countries and supporting the economic development efforts in Djibouti.

The talks included agreeing on establishing a branch of Banque Misr, increase the volume of trade exchange, and establishing an Egyptian logistics zone in Djibouti, according to Sisi.

The president also noted that the talks highlighted strengthening cooperation in the areas of transport and port connectivity along with operating a direct Air flight between Cairo and Djibouti.

Sisi and Guelleh also discussed the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam updates, as Egypt’s President affirmed the country’s political will to reach a binding legal agreement on filling and operating the Renaissance Dam.

Both leaders also discussed the regional situation in the Horn of Africa and the security of the Red Sea

President of Djibouti Ismail Omar Guelleh described the talks with President Sisi as ‘fruitful and constructive’. He indicated that they agreed to develop relations between the two countries.

Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah al Sisi received, Monday his Djiboutian counterpart Ismail Omar Guelleh  at Al-Ittihadiya Palace in an official ceremony.

Last May, Sisi headed early to Djibouti to hold a summit meeting with counterpart Ismail Omar Guelleh.

The visit was the first of its kind as no Egyptian chief of state has ever visited Djibouti. As indicated by Presidency Spokesperson Bassam Rady.

The two leaders held a press conference in which President Sisi said: “It is my pleasure to be the first president of the Arab Republic of Egypt to hold a state visit to Djibouti, which plays a pivotal role in the region”

The president stated he had carried out "fruitful and constructive consultations" with counterpart. The talks examined ways of bolstering and developing bilateral ties on the political, economic, security, and military levels. That will be achieved by boosting trade exchange rates, and intensifying cooperation in the field of capacity-building through training courses offered by the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD).
